Before we get to today’s prompt, think of your favorite verb. Think of the most musical word you know. Think of your favorite sonic sound—think of a word that sings with that sound. Think of a question you’ve been meaning to ask: is it a what, or a who, or a where, or a when, or a why? Think of an answer you’ve been longing to give, in one word. Yes, no, maybe.
The answers to the questions: being, effervescent, thunder,
Are you there?, Maybe. Then Khara wanted a word, just one and I was at a loss but
the idea of the question and my answer led me to the following:
If You Could
You said, if
you could, you’d come back, you would,
just long enough to say
everything’s OK.
Couldn’t you?
I keep waiting for some sign…
thundering or meek,
maybe, on my cheek
you could puff a small breath
or whistle a familiar tune
from the throat of a finch,
a cinch, you could say,
couldn’t you?
And yet, if you would,
I’d talk myself out of it, perceive
the mystical as indigestible
gruel. Why can’t I just believe?
Fate was so cruel
to fashion me thus.
Why must I be a Thomas?
Doubting, needing proof,
aloof from the psychic thread
of sensing the dead.
Did you try?
Would you?
Could you?
Wow!~ This is powerful! All and I love this portion:
ReplyDelete"whistle a familiar tune

I just love that we both chose "thunder," Debi!!
Thank you for visiting me!
I agree that this is very powerful and has lots of wonderful use of language. I like "the mystical as indigestible". Good work, Debi.
