Out of Standard: Blue Moon Special
Bullfrogs croak a deep bass rum, rum
from the shadows in the tall grass
insects join with tedious hum
a midnight pond choir en masse.
The inky water, deep, serene
mirrors the light elliptically
with imprecisely edged hazy sheen
that teases the surface whimsically
until a bullfrog leaps with a splash
after a tasty dragonfly
forming waves that ripple and plash
propelling the image awry
into a patchwork of quilted
blocks of shimmery, splintered light then calms again into tilted
recollections of starry nights.
